Paris Fashion Week kicks off

Tiffany & Co is going to court and Nicki Minaj is the face of the new Marc Jacobs campaign. Catch up on these stories and more as we share the top international fashion news of the week.

Milan Fashion Week ends in style

Milan Fashion Week is over for another season. From Versace to Gucci to Prada, the fashion world has been taken by storm with the latest trends of the season. Highlights included Prada, which celebrated women’s history with a series of tailored pieces, flowing skirts, boxy jackets and metallic shoes. “This collection is about the history of women, the history of people, not the history of fashion,” Miuccia Prada said of the collection. “I think of groundbreaking moments in Prada’s history, and we echo them here,” said Prada co-creative director Raf Simons.

Matthieu Blazy’s first furore as creative director of Bottega Veneta took place with a bang at MFW. Her collection showcased the brand’s current signature style with an added twist. Leather skirts with fringed petticoats, high boots and futuristic dresses were the stars of the show. The designer also presented the new Kalimero bag alongside the iconic Pillow bag. “Bottega Veneta is essentially pragmatic because it is a leather goods company. Since he specializes in bags, it’s about movement, about going somewhere; there is basically a moving craft idea. It’s more style than fashion in its timelessness. It’s part of his silent power,” Blazy said of the show.

Paris Fashion Week kicks off

As Milan Fashion Week ends, Paris Fashion Week begins. The French event kicks off with shows from Off-White and The Row, which presented a fresh look at the brands we know. The first took us for a spin on “Spaceship Earth,” with casual tees and puffer jackets, oversized hats and a mix of textures. The latter took the long-sleeve trend to new lengths – literally – with suits and cuts exemplified by edgy, Japanese-inspired silhouettes and colors.

Rick Owens took his audience to the clouds. The models wore portable smoke machines and immersed everyone in a scented world, provided by a collaboration with Aesop. Her collection was futuristic and featured gothic elements, blending the two aesthetics in a world of sequins, knits, flowing silhouettes and lots of drama. “During times of grief, beauty can be one of the ways to maintain faith,” the fashion show notes read. The collections of Vivienne Westwood, Hermes, Balenciaga and many others are still to come.

Cartier takes legal action against Tiffany & Co

Two of the biggest jewelers are taking the case to court. Cartier accused Tiffany & Co of stealing trade secrets and filed a lawsuit. According to court reports, Tiffany hired Cartier’s former junior manager, Megan Marino, to work on her “high jewelry” collection. Coins in this collection range from $50,000 to $10 million. Additionally, Marino allegedly downloaded confidential information about a similar Cartier jewelry line before sharing it with his Tiffany colleagues.

Following an investigation into Cartier’s affair, Marno was allegedly fired by Tiffany & Co. The complaint claims that Tiffany & Co “used quick money and title advancement to lure an underemployed employee.” described as a successful competitor, knowing that she lacked the experience and knowledge to play a role as a high jewelry manager. The jeweler denied the allegations. “We deny the baseless allegation and will defend ourselves vigorously.” , a spokesperson for Tiffany & Co. told Bloomberg.

Nicki Minaj takes part in the Marc Jacobs campaign

Nicki Minaj is the face of Marc Jacobs’ latest SS22 campaign – Heaven. The musician plays in the campaign alongside Paloma, Sky Ferreira and Yung Lean, among others. Sporting a series of blunt wigs, she wore fishnet tights, 90s graphic tees, colorful jumpsuits and the much-loved Kiki boots. Shot by Harley Weir, the campaign showcases the nostalgic era of the 90s and 2000s, infused with psychedelic visuals. Mena Suvari, star of the 1999 film American Beauty, recreated her iconic image lying on a bed of roses, donning a white baby t-shirt and lace-up platforms.
