Maya Jama’s awkward reunion with Stormzy’s best friend in the Love Island final as she comments on Omar’s topless photos
MAYA Jama had an awkward exchange with her ex-boyfriend Stormzy’s best pal during the Love Island final last night.
The series host traded banter with former bombshell Omar Nyame, who is often seen hanging out with Stormzy on social media, after the dumped Islanders gathered to watch Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan be crowned winners.
During the show, Maya – who split from Stormzy earlier this month just a year after rekindling their romance – teased Omar for his saucy Get Ready With Me videos on Instagram.
Maya said: “There’s a lot of underwear situation going on, you’re naked on the gram quite often. Is that your new thirst trap technique?”
Omar replied with a smile: “Do you know what, at the end of the day my body’s good…”
One viewer wrote on X: “Not Maya talking to Omar her ex boyfriend’s friend [laughter emoji].”
Another said: “Not Maya outing Omar for doing GRWM in his panty.”
A third posted: “Ik that was awkward for Maya and Omar LOL.”
A fourth wrote: “Maya not discussing the show w Omar & just his thirst traps.”
Maya, 29, and Stormzy, 30, blindsided fans with their joint break-up statement.
The lengthy message, which looked to have been written by Maya, revealed they had failed to make the romance work but insisted they would remain friends.
It read: “We’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”
Describing their love story, she wrote: “We fell madly in love in 2014, broke up in 2019, and then spent five years manoeuvring life apart.”
After that first break-up, Maya dated basketball player Ben Simmons and ended up getting engaged to him.
But the romance would be short-lived, when the couple reportedly ended their engagement back in August 2022.
In August 2023, The Sun told how Maya reunited with Stormzy after the former lovebirds were snapped holding hands in Greece as well as on a date night in London months later.
Maya continued: “We decided to try for the final time in August 2023, and we’ve spent this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits.
“We were 21 and 20 when we first met-both at the beginning of our careers-and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately.
“So this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and We still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The Brits or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!).
“Love you guys and thank you for all the love you’ve showered us with, it’s been beautiful! Mike & M x”
The couple were last seen at the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone and Glastonbury Festival.
In June fans thought they had secretly got engaged after a series of romantic snaps from a trip to Paris – showing them kissing on a balcony.
It wasn’t until around three years into their relationship that Stormzy’s music career really took off.
He wrote the song Birthday Girlabout Maya in 2016, with the TV presenter even appearing in the music video.
The following year the rap king revealed toThe Mirror, that he had been thinking about proposing to her.
He said: “I’m still so young but I want to propose, it’s going to happen and I will do it right. She is the best.”
But two short years later fans were left heartbroken as the two abruptly split-up after 4 years together.
It inspired the musician to write his heartfelt 2019 song, Lessons, in which he admitted he had “done the dirt”.
The lyrics also include “the greatest love I ever knew” and “it’s too hard to forgive”.
Their initial split coincided with both of their careers going stratospheric.
Stormzy went on to headline Glastonbury and win numerous prestigious awards, while Maya has become the face of makeup brand Rimmel and rubs shoulders with the fashion world’s elite.
